South By Southwest is one of my favorite events in Austin. SXSW isn’t just a festival for me, its also a tradition that I share with my brother who first introduced me to it a couple years back. I never really got to enjoy it as much as I wanted to due to finishing school. Having the opportunity to actually participate and enjoy the festival without school and taking off work was so worth it. You can literally walk the streets of Austin and run into a celebrity or your favorite artist. This actually happened to me while checking out a premiere for Hannibal Burress. Now if you don’t know who Hannibal Burress is, then you must be living under a comedy rock. Hannibal Burress has been one of my biggest influences since I began my comedy true north. I had the opportunity to meet him on the streets of Austin. Anyways, SXSW has been my way to escape the norm and enjoy some great movies and comedy.
I had the privilege to perform during SXSW and share the stage with some hilarious comedians. I was a little nervous because this was my first SXSW show and the first time my brother seen me on stage. I had always been nervous around general people but with my brother in the audience added more pressure to NOT SUCK! I ended up going up on stage and doing my thing without nerves. The crowd laughed and more importantly my brother approved. LOL. I enjoyed his description as he said “I’m a blue comic.” which I didn’t mind at all. Good time with good friends and family.
